Pregnancy is all about enjoying each moment and living the life by the seconds count because once this phase ends you can’t rewind it back. You might get pregnant again but every pregnancy is unique. And the best part about every pregnancy is its fashion, and also the little miracle that grows in you. It is also the phase that makes you proud that both of you, you and the little one, have passed every trimester successfully.

Speaking about fashion, the one nightmare that haunts every mother whether she would become fat, whether or not will she be able to put on a pair of jeans or slip into a pretty dress. Worry not ladies, you are in for quite a surprise. You can not wear jeans but a wide range of pretty dresses that are meant for maternity, that would bring out the inner glow.

So basically I am going to divide the sections trimester wise and would share with what to wear and what not in every trimester.

First Trimester:

The phase were you set into the fact that you’r pregnant, but haven’t quite yet involved everyone around in this big news. This phase marks the onset of nausea, vomiting , tiredness etc. This is the phase were you can continue wearing your regular clothes but there might be a slight chance that you won’t be comfortable in them.

Do’s: Breast are the first things that starts to change, that is one of the first symptoms to show in your pregnancy. You need to take utmost care of them. So I would suggest try on one size bigger bra, and focus on comfortable shoulder straps. Use padded ones because they are very comfortable. You will get these with good offers on sites like Shyaway, Zivame and amazon (Check options on Amazon) .

Don’t: Please don’t rush to maternity clothing section as yet, because, you have not yet started showing. But you might as well include in your bag some comfortable kurtas and tees that would go with you a long way.

Second trimester:

This is the time when you actually start to show that lovely little baby bump which is so adorable. And so the clothing in this period also should focus on giving space to your growing munchkin.

Do’s: Try on some easy to slip in dresses and comfortable jumpsuits that would go with you the long run. It’s time to transition your footwear too, focus on less heels and comfortable flats cause all that pressure is going to come on your knees and ankles. And it is also a great time to go leggings shopping which is not only cool but also cozy. All these options are available on Myntra, Firtcry and Amazon.

Don’t: Give your belly space to breathe don’t cluster it with tight waist bands or belts. You can continue wearing them below waist level. Transition from your regular wardrobe to maternity wear could be hard but go with the flow before you know it you would start enjoying the change.

Third trimester:

The bump now fully shows itself, hot flushes and pains might have set in. Under such circumstances fabric of the clothing definitely matters. Cotton clothing always a best option to go with, some women find themselves completely comfortable in sarees. So it’s all on the situation and your mood. So focus on your bodies needs.

Do’s: You might want to invest in maternity support belt (usually priced between ₹299 – ₹900, available online) by this time, it makes life easier and prevents back pain. Plus you get the added benefit of wearing any dress over it comfortably because it doesn’t show. This is the phase for long tunic, gowns and pretty little maternity wear. So dig in, and shop for your heart’s content, but remember you shouldn’t regret later so keep in mind dresses that you can use post delivery very too, thus buy dresses that help you with nursing too.

Don’t: There is no don’t in this section, just enjoy the last few months of your pregnancy.

Pregnancy is the time that you will miss the most,

But you will adore you little angel utmost,

Give yourself a kiss in the mirror,

Because whatever you wear looks absolute killer!!!

I am a mother of a beautiful baby girl. She is the most precious thing to have happened to me. Motherhood in the eyes of a medical professional is completely different. Very often I find myself in a dilemma when she is sick I become frozen and panicked. As a first time mother it is sometimes overwhelming and full of surprises. Yes being in medical professional helps me tackle a few things here and there but what I have learnt through the journey so far is it’s okay to not know or being not able to decide for yourself. It’s okay if you seek somebody’s help. It doesn’t mean that you are weak or don’t have enough knowledge it just means you are new at this and trying to do your best. It takes great courage to accept your short comings and learn about it in the process. As a mother and as a medical professional I have just one advice and tip to all the parents out there do not ever try and compare your little one to other children. Every child is unique and is a blessing enjoy their childhood and let them be.
